└────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘Essential Fields Explained:
- Barcode / SKU: Point your handheld scanner at the product barcode to save it. You can also print custom barcode stickers directly from MEGSTAT POS for unbranded items!
- Purchase Cost vs. Selling Price vs. MRP:
- Purchase Cost: What you paid your distributor (never printed on customer receipts).
- Selling Price: The actual price you charge your customer.
- MRP: The printed Maximum Retail Price. The system ensures cashiers never accidentally charge higher than MRP.
- Service Items: Non-physical services (like Home Delivery Charge, Gift Wrapping, or Tailor Alteration) can be marked as Service (No Stock Tracking) so they bill without deducting inventory.
Units of Measurement & Weighed Items
Retail stores sell products in many different units: packets, boxes, kilograms, liters, meters, or grams.
Under Catalog → Units of Measurement (UOM):
- Base Units:
PCS(Pieces),KG(Kilograms),LTR(Liters),MTR(Meters). - Loose & Weighed Produce: For grocery, fruit, and vegetable counters, cashiers can enter fractional amounts like
1.450 kgof onions. - Pack Multipliers: Buy by the carton and sell by the piece! (e.g. 1 Box of Biscuits =
24 Packets). The system automatically adjusts stock when you sell individual packets or full boxes.
Price Lists: Retail vs. Wholesale Tiering
Do you sell to both everyday walk-in shoppers and bulk wholesale contractors? You shouldn't have to negotiate prices or calculate discounts in your head at the counter!
Under Catalog → Price Lists, you can create custom pricing tiers:
| Price List | Target Customers | How it Works |
|---|---|---|
| Standard Retail | Everyday walk-in customers | Normal shelf selling price (MRP / retail price). |
| Wholesale B2B | Shopkeepers, restaurants, caterers | Automatic 15% markdown or fixed wholesale price per box. |
| VIP Club | Repeat loyal club members | Special member pricing on selected high-margin categories. |
| Airport / Mall Outlet | Premium location branches | Automatic 10% premium for high-rent branches. |
Customer Groups: Automatic Discounting
You can assign your regular customers to Customer Groups (e.g., "Wholesale Buyers", "Gym Trainers", or "VIP Gold"):
- Go to Customers → Customer Groups.
- Create the group and attach their designated Price List.
- When the cashier enters a customer's phone number during checkout, the cart automatically switches to their special wholesale prices! No manual calculator or manager approval needed.
Promotions, Offers & Discounts
Run exciting seasonal campaigns to attract shoppers and clear older stock:
1. Buy One Get One (BOGO)
- "Buy 2 Shirts, Get 1 Free"
- The system automatically detects the 3 shirts in the cart and applies 100% discount to the lowest-priced item.
2. Basket / Cart Value Thresholds
- "Spend ₹3,000, Get Flat ₹300 Off" or "Spend ₹5,000, Get 10% Off"
- Encourages shoppers to add one more item to their basket before heading to checkout.
3. Category & Weekend Flash Sales
- "Flat 20% Off all Footwear this Saturday and Sunday"
- Set a start and end date. The discounts apply automatically during the weekend and stop at midnight Sunday.
4. Coupon Codes
- Run promotional ads in newspapers or on WhatsApp with coupon codes like
DIWALI20orSUMMERSALE. - The cashier types or scans the coupon code at the counter to apply the instant discount.
